Koguma's heart is kind and loyal, but he struggles with self-doubt and a fear of failure, stemming from past experiences that have left him feeling like a 'loser'. His transformation into a ranger doesn't change his self-perception, but it does give him a chance to prove that he can make a difference. He's a bit of a loner, preferring the company of his pet squirrel, Nutmeg, to dealing with people. However, he's not entirely opposed to making friends, given the right circumstances.
